Assessing and improving practice

Freedom of Information Annual Report 2010/11

The Commissioner has a duty to promote good FOI practice amongst Scottish public authorities - this can include assessing whether an authority is following good practice.  He undertook his first practice assessment visit in November 2008, and his Assessment Team now make around 12 visits a year. Practice assessments explore whether an authority's actual practice complies with its obligations under FOISA and the EIRs, and the section 60 and 61 codes of practice issued by Scottish Ministers.
