The Commissioner has conducted research into public awareness of FOI since 2004. Full reports from all previous waves of the research are available here.
While general awareness of FOI remains high, there was a significant decrease in 2009 in the proportion of the public who were able to correctly identify the nature and extent of their information rights.
Awareness of the Scottish Information Commissioner will depend on a range of factors, including media coverage and whether people are informed by public authorities about their rights of appeal.
The Scottish Government is currently considering extending FOI to cover some or all of the bodies listed below.
