The Scottish Information Commissioner, Kevin Dunion, welcomes the Scottish Ministers' decision, announced today, to explore issues around extending the coverage of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, and in particular whether to designate registered social landlords, local authority trusts and contractors who provide public services that are a function of a public authority.
Mr Dunion said "I have already written to the Minister to encourage such measures, which in my view are needed to protect and extend the public's rights to access information in the face of changes to public service delivery. I am pleased that Ministers have chosen to explore designation issues further, and I will support the work of the Government in taking this review forward."
