A day of free workshop events for voluntary sector staff and campaigners in Edinburgh

Monday 28 May
EVOC, Ashley Place, Edinburgh
10:00 - 16:00

The Scottish Information Commissioner is, in partnership with the Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations' Council (EVOC) and the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), organising a day of free workshop events for the voluntary sector.

The day will provide information and advice on:

  • the rights that staff and clients have to access information under freedom of information (FOI) law.  FOI can be used by the third sector to support a range of activities - including campaigning, policy work, tendering or research
  • the responsibilities that voluntary sector organisations have under the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) and the management of the personal data they hold.

Workshop 1:  An introduction to Data Protection, will run from 10am until 12:30, and will be hosted by Sheila Logan, Operations and Policy Manager at the ICO.

Workshop 2: Making Freedom of Information work for you will run from 13:30 to 16:00, and will feature Paul Mutch and Susan Gray of the Scottish Information Commissioner's office, along with David Griffiths, Chief Executive of ECAS, who will share his own experiences of using FOI in the voluntary sector.

Participants can chose to attend both DPA and FOI workshops, or can register to attend just one.  Those signing up to attend both workshops will be provided with a free sandwich lunch.

For more information on both workshops, or to book a place, visit:
