Free FOI Workshops for the voluntary sector

The Scottish Information Commissioner is running two free workshops to help voluntary organisations and campaign groups from Glasgow and the surrounding area get the most out of their freedom of information (FOI) rights.

FOI has the potential to be an important part of the toolkit of any voluntary organisation, helping them to get the information they need to achieve their goals.  The workshops will provide an introduction to the FOI right, along with testimonies from those who have themselves successfully used FOI, and hints and tips on how to make effective requests.

The workshops, entitled 'Making Freedom of Information Work For You', are being supported by the Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector (GCVS).  They will take place on Tuesday 30 August 2011 at the Albany Centre, 44 Ashley Street, Woodlands, Glasgow, with the same workshop running from 10am until 12 noon, and again from 2pm until 4pm.

To book your free place on either workshop, telephone 01334 464610, or email enquiries@itspublicknowledge.info.  Further workshops are being planned for other areas of Scotland later this year.

 ***Update***

A version of these workshops will also run as part of the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) forthcoming 'How to do things differently' conferences, which take place in the Scottish Borders on 5 September, and in Inverness on 8 September 2011.  For more information on booking a place at either of these events, and to view the full programme, visit www.scvo.org.uk/events. (Please note - while the Commissioner's Glasgow workshops are free, there will be a charge for attending the SCVO conferences).
